Jo is the daughter of a wealthy family in the Eastern Jin dynasty (265-420 AD). During those days women are discouraged from taking up scholarly pursuits. She manages to convince her parents to let her study, by disguising as a man. She meets Leon on her way to school and for the next three years they study and live together. Jo eventually falls in love with Leon, and Leon reciprocates after finding out Jo is a woman. The difference in social class however prevents them to be together. When Leon hears Jo is going to marry a rich man, he becomes ill...
